My husband and I reserved 10 days at Casa Marbella, and shared the larger two bedroom suite with our friends from Florida. Case Marbella came highly recommended by some friends who frequent for surfing and we are so glad we took their advice.
Hotel Casa Marbella; Santa Teresa, Costa Rica – Perfect for nature lovers, surfers, yogis and adventure travelers.
Getting to Santa Teresa is an adventure in itself but the views are unlike anything you’ve ever seen. Stephanie and Jim (owners) helped us set everything up. We took a shuttle van from San José to Puntarenas where we boarded a ferry to Tambor. The ride across Gulf of Nicoya was stunning and we had fun talking with people from all over the world who were headed to yoga & surf retreats. Once we were off the ferry, we took our final shuttle to the hotel. Our driver dropped us off at the bottom of the hill where we walked up the cobblestone entrance to Casa Marbella. You will be amazed by every angle and view of this place!
Stephanie had left us a hand written note in case we had arrived early while she was taking her daughter to school. A beautiful German woman checked us in and humored my husband with her language skills; she was very helpful in showing us our room & the hotel’s ammenities. Our room was right off of CM’s ocean view infinity pool. The king sized bed was decorated with tropical flowers and our private deck was dressed with seating including a hammock with starry views. We had a full kitchen including a table, gas stove, fridge, sink and microwave. The shared bathroom was a great size and the all-natural aesthetics matched the rest of the space. CM implements a variety of “green” features.
Stephanie arranged a board rental for my husband. They have a great selection of surfboards to choose from and he was able to keep the same board throughout our stay. Jim gave us great tips for places to surf away from crowds. Since so many guests are returning fans of Casa Marbella, we met some friendly groups who invited us to join them for excursions, surfing and dinner. Case Marbella set up our ATV rentals, which were delivered to us at the hotel (awesome!), and gave us directions for exploring Mal País and Montezuma (must-do); I would recommend having an ATV throughout your stay because it makes it so much easier to explore the various towns and beaches within a few miles.
We spent one day just relaxing in hammocks and in the pool around Casa Marbella. They have a great little coffee bar available each morning, as well as a selection of books and games. Guests can easily purchase bottled water, wine and beer from their fridge if they don’t want to go to the Soda or a restaurant. The staff was very polite and friendly – my husband made friends with the overnight security greeting each other each evening with, “Hola! Mi hermano!”
Apart from the hillside views overlooking the beach, ocean, flora and fauna, Casa Marbella’s location is unreal for nearby restaurants and activities. Recommend: Canopy Tours Mal País, Montezuma Falls, Montezuma Market (Saturdays), Panadería Cafetería (Cabuya), Isla De Cabuya, Reserva Natural Cabo Blanco (Cabuya), Playa Hermosa (tide pools), The Bakery, Soda Playa Carmen, Brisas Del Mar (best dinner of our trip & right up the stairs from CM), Banana Beach, Super Fresco (groceries).
We LOVED Casa Marbella and Santa Teresa – we hope to return each year.
