9 Gift Ideas for New Photographers

For many, gift giving can be a stressful occasion. I, on the other hand, look forward to it. I really enjoy the creative game of surprising my loved ones with gifts they forgot they wanted or something creative that brings an unexpected smile to their face. Throughout the coming weeks, I will be sharing a few posts with gifting inspiration, beginning with this one. Here is my suggested list of gift ideas for new photographers. Gift Ideas for New Photographers

Why I Chose These Items

The Nikon D3200 is the first DSLR camera I ever owned; I took my first published photo and started booking paid gigs with this camera. The 35mm or 50mm are versatile and affordable lenses that every photographer should own. The Nikon 1 J5 is another, more travel friendly, camera option that would be great for photographers who are also interested in videography. A GoPro will make a photographer out of any adventure traveler or athlete. The first camera accessories I bought were a strap (you do NOT want to drop your camera) and a camera bag – the linked bags are designer options that will help new photographers look professional. Non-predictable camera bags are also ideal for travel photographers who want to avoid looking like an obvious tourist or letting potential thieves know they have a camera. Annie Leibovitz is probably one of the most accomplished photographers of our time – even if you don’t share her style, you can learn something from her regarding approach and storytelling. I added the Insta Mini8 for two reasons: The first, because it’s cute and fun, and the second, because polaroids – or film cameras – have a way of training us to really calculate our photos.

So there you go! I hope you found this post helpful if you’re shopping for the photography lover in your life. As I mentioned before, I will be sharing more gift inspiration in the coming weeks to help you shop including: travelers, techies, foodies, fitness nuts, and go-to gifts that everyone loves.
