Camera Shop With Me – Mirrorless Cameras I’m Researching

I have approached a season of growth in the camera department. Not only do I hope to purchase a second Nikon DSLR body, but i’m also looking for a compact, mirrorless camera specifically for vlogging on-the-go (click to latest videos here, here, and here). Below are 7 mirrorless cameras I have been researching & i’d love your feedback! Please leave your wisdom in the comments section if you have experience with any of these cameras. 4 of the 7 cameras below cover each of the key qualities i’m looking for in a vlogging camera; 2 cameras fall short in one deal-breaker area (180º screen), and 1 missed the mark in video quality (30fps vs 60+). Keep on reading if you are interested in learning which mirrorless camera I believe is right for me, and how I came to the conclusion.

FINALISTS

  1. Sony Alpha a5100 ($598)
  2. Nikon 1-J5 ($496)

Autofocus, 180º screen and video quality were my top three deal breakers. Still, haven’t decided which of these two cameras is going to be best for me. The popularity and number of reviews available for the a5100 make it a comfortable choice, however Nikon is my go-to brand and I’m all about shinning the light on trying new things. Sony offers a slightly higher video quality, but i’m not sure if it’s enough to make a difference to the viewer. I also like that, with the Nikon, I’ll have an extra $100 to put towards lenses or my 2nd DSLR body. Even with the help of B&H’s side-by-side comparison of the two mirrorless cameras, I still see pros and cons in both.  If you have any experience with either of these cameras, please let me know in the comments section.
