I’m home from a week-long vacation with my mom – an annual tradition – and we spent our last two days in New York City. Halfway through our first day, I realized I had missed the sundress memo. Work, coffee meetings, sightseeing, dinner dates…I saw this one item everywhere and styled countless ways on women of all ages and shapes. These city girl sundresses usually included boho patterns and classic colors, airy fabrics and flowy design – I’ve linked my favorites below.
Casual dresses have always been a travel staple, but what I saw in NYC had me rethinking what travel essentials could look like. Efficient packing usually means sticking with basic items and colors that can be mixed-and-matched, but who says basics have to be black and white? I’m the kind of gal who wears one-piece swimsuits like a shirt with jeans and styles her hair with ocean water, so if I ever packed a sundress, it was my “just in case we do something fancy” outfit. I never thought to pack a flowy floral dress to pair with walking shoes, a camera bag, and the oh-so-clutch bad hair day hat.
Now, I haven’t tested them out, so I can’t endorse the platform sandals (linked below) as great walking shoes, but these were styled with sundresses all over the city. I’m not mad about it. If it were me – and it will be – you’d see some Sanuk sandals or white Converse and a baseball cap or Panama hat. Come cool season, I see these dresses working just as well with boots and a denim, military, or vegan leather jacket.
