Let me start off by saying, I am no health or fitness guru. I am not ridiculously fit, nor do I have an intense agenda associated with my eating style. I am simply someone who has experienced being sick and having an unhealthy lifestyle, then decided to make a change. Below is a current list of what I eat in a day, and a little background as to why I choose to eat the way I do.
The short version: Soon after I was born, my mom noticed I had tummy troubles. After some tests, I was given the ironic diagnosis of Chronic Reoccurring Abdominal Pain (that’s right -> CRAP). Between ages 18-23 my weight fluctuated a lot and I struggled with diets assigned by dance coaches. Diet and supplements did nothing and I ended up developing unhealthy habits to lose weight. In 2012, I had my blood tested for food allergies; results: yes and no. Basically, I can eat anything without being deathly ill, but almost everything will give me discomfort. Solution: experiment with food and avoid the negatives.
I’ve discovered that my body is not a fan of most carbs including baked goods, breads and pasta, dairy, meat, processed foods, and sweets – sounds an awful lot like everything, right? This means I eat an almost entirely raw and vegan diet. I still eat some of these things from time to time, but I try to avoid them as much as I can and will opt for tummy-friendly options if they’re available.
Luckily, the foods that don’t bother me seem to be the healthiest. Fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts and healthy fats are all good in my tummy hood! I shared my grocery list in a previous post –> here. Paired with a mixture of yoga and circuit training, I have seen a change in my body that I’ve never experienced before AND I feel great. The question I get most is, “Does the food you eat even taste good?” Totally! The truth is, there’s almost always a healthy/natural version of any kind of meal or snack, and I don’t crave junk foods anymore (Although, my weaknesses are movie popcorn and frozen yogurt). I’m sharing what I eat in a day so you can try it yourself – let me know if you do!
