November was good to us. 🥰 I took my first dance class in 5 years, got a little busy with holiday art commissions, celebrated my guy’s birthday, showed friends and family around NWA, and enjoyed a stunning fall season. Christmas decor is officially up and plans to wrap up the year are already epic! Time to settle in and enjoy the reason for the season. 🙏 God is good!

October was nuts finishing my painting goal and November has been full of visitor activity. We spent most of our days with friends and fam from out of town, exploring the gorgeousness of rocky-mossy-waterfally Arkansas, [mildly] obsessing over the fall colors (I mean, seriously, it was insane), and kicking off the holiday events/shopping season for FLPSDE. I expect December to return to regularly scheduled programming with an abundance of adventure-filled photos and videos to share, especially as we head to Costa Rica! Happy Thanksgiving 🫶🏽

NWA fall doesn’t make sense in the best way. 🍁☀️Somehow, we’re enjoying the colors and smells of fall but the warmth and wardrobe of late summer. 🌅 Like, I want hot apple cider by a bonfire but I also smell sunscreen and want to read in my sun hat. 🤷🏻‍♀️ We doubled-up with a bike and SUP adventure at Hobbs State Park today. Highly recommend. 🙌

FOUR! 4️⃣ This summer, I set a goal to complete a collection of work by the end of October. With just under two weeks left, I have FOUR left to achieve this goal - three of which are nearly finished. I’ve never done anything like this before. I have always wanted to offer prints of my photography for sale, but things (mostly own doubts or insecurities) have gotten in the way.

A few days ago, when I finished varnishing a few paintings, I thought, “Man! I’ve gotten a lot done. I wonder how many there are now.” There was a time when I didn’t think I’d accomplish this goal. After counting, I was so proud of myself. No one knew the number I chose,
and now it’s very possible I could surpass it. Have you ever set a goal for yourself and told no one? Not so no one will know if you fail, but to see if you can keep a promise to yourself?

Bold/Brave is the motivation behind this project. To vulnerably present something I’m still learning to the world. Exposing my imperfections, the true insecurity. “Do they see the flaw? What is this imperfect piece of art worth?” Can I be proud of what it is, as it is, regardless of what anyone else thinks?

I figure, time isn’t promised, and I don’t want to get to the end of my days wishing I had tried but was too afraid. It makes me think of the Jim Carrey quote about, “…fear disguised as practicality.”

When did anything exciting or miraculous come out of a practical situation?

It’s days like today that I’m thankful for the

It’s days like today that I’m thankful for the different skills I’ve collected in my adult life; some out of necessity. 📸

Story time: Photography was something I picked up after retiring from decades of dance. I used to think I’d perform on Broadway (maybe one day I will) but in 2011, I had moved to Florida with no other hobbies.

Ben and his friends were into anything on a board or two wheels, and I couldn’t really keep up. So, I started taking photos of my surroundings and friends with my Blackberry, and upgraded to a Nikon DSLR two years later.

I never expected to be a “photographer,” but this skill/hobby has served me in many ways over the past decade. Now, I am able to use this skill for both art and business; to capture beautiful moments worth hanging in a gallery or printing in a magazine, creating marketing content for Ben’s company, and professional images of my paintings for making prints and selling originals online.

I used to think having a lot of skills or hobbies was a flaw - like I couldn’t just focus one thing - but now I recognize trait as a curiosity for life. Photography, painting, guitar, sailing, surfing, languages, MTB, nutrition…I may not be an expert at everything I find interesting, but at the end of my days, I hope there isn’t something left that I was genuinely interested in and didn’t, at least, try.

Birthday Donut 🍩 Being that it is my birthday today, I thought I’d share the story behind the painting. Birthday Donut is a tradition that started on Ben’s 30th birthday. We were on the road for a family moto trip, which made it difficult to have a cake. When we stopped for gas, I bought a sprinkle donut and surprised him in the car yelling, “Birthday donut!! Happy birthday!” Now, we have birthday donuts every year on our birthdays. 🥰 Needless to say, this painting is not for sale.
